Leaders: Graham

Trip Participants:  Uwe, Geoff & Peggy, Phil & Gill, Colin & Heather, Ignatius & Angela, Danny & Fay, Colin A.

The trip consisted of 13 participants and 8 cars. We met outside the boarded-up pub on Barry St in Romsey and departed at 10:45am after coffee (for some) and a briefing from Graham, our trip leader.

We headed along the Woodend–Wallan Road (aka Barry St) past the Men’s Shed, sports ground and golf club before turning left onto Tickawarra Rd on the outskirts of Romsey, where we soon left the asphalt for gravel.

Driving along several other roads we passed through green, undulating pastoral country until we reached McGarths Lane which proved to be more of a track, and which led to Goldies Bushland Reserve.  Along the lane we encountered walkers, horse riders and a short water-crossing after a rutty piece of track.

Various, mostly unmade roads took us to Burke and Wills Track which was quite wide, sealed and lined with houses on large blocks as well as small farms. This led to the Cobaw State Forest, a relatively small recreation area which is popular with both off-road motor cyclists and 4WDers. Turning left we entered the park and took Ridge Road which wound through the forest taking us on a loop back to the Burke and Wills Track.

From there we drove the short distance to Lancefield where we had lunch at The Lost Watering Hole Brewery. The brewery was modern and spacious and the food good. An enjoyable end to a pleasant day.
